Firmware Flashing Tutorial

All firmware comes pre-flashed from the factory. In most cases, customers do not need to re-flash the Bootloader firmware; simply update the main firmware as needed.
The flashing method varies depending on the tool used:
  • For fixed-wing aircraft, RC cars, RC boats, and other non-multirotor users (who do not have a flight controller): You must use the "AM32 USB Programmer" to flash the firmware and configure parameters.
  • For multirotor drone users: You can connect directly to the flight controller via USB and perform firmware updates and parameter configuration through the AM32 online website.

How to Flash Firmware Using the AM32 USB Programmer

Required Tools: USB data cable, AM32 USB Programmer, battery or simulated power supply, and the offline flashing software (Config Tool).
Notes:
  • Important: If you use the web-based AM32 configurator (am32.ca) with the AM32 USB Programmer, the process may freeze at 100%. Please use the offline version of the software to flash the firmware.
  • The flashing procedure varies slightly depending on whether the ESC currently has the main firmware installed. The image below illustrates an ESC that has the Bootloader firmware but no main firmware.

Firmware Flashing Steps
1. The ESC has both the main firmware and the bootloader firmware:

2. The ESC has no main firmware but has the bootloader firmware:

If the "firmware version not displayed" warning (yellow alert) appears after flashing when connecting to the ground station software, simply close the webpage, disconnect the ESC (both data and power), and then reconnect to restore normal operation.

Method for Flashing Firmware via Flight Controller

Required Tools:
  • USB Data Cable
  • Multi-rotor Flight Controller (FPV racing flight controllers are recommended)
  • Battery or Simulated Power Supply (Bench Power Supply)
  • Web-based Configurator: am32.ca
Notes:
  • Open https://am32.ca/configurator in your browser. Note: Only Chromium-based browsers (e.g., Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge) are supported.
  • Connect the Flight Controller to the computer via USB, then power on the ESC.
    • ⚠️ WARNING: Do NOT install propellers on the motors to prevent injury caused by accidental motor rotation.
  • This method works regardless of whether the ESC has the main firmware installed, as long as the Bootloader firmware is present.
